Q. What is the WYCC Walk for Health?
The WYCC Walk for Health is a 3K family walk to support health and wellness. The Walk seeks to address health issues and encourage a more active, healthier lifestyle and the benefits of doing more – outdoors.
Q. How can I register for the WYCC Walk for Health?
With online/phone registration, please bring a photo ID to the pre-registration table on the day of the event to pick up your event packet and t-shirt.
Pre-registration is highly recommended. Same day registration is available, however supplies may be limited. On-site registration begins at 8:00 am.
*Children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult and all participants must be registered.
Q. What is the deadline for registration?
Online pre-registration will close on Friday, September 19. On-site registration on September 26 begins at 8:00 am.
Q. Is my registration information secure?
Yes, when processing your registration and donation we utilize our standard processing system to protect your privacy.
Q. How early can I show up on event day?
7:45 am. Early registration and packet pick up begins at 8:00 am.
Q. What time does the event end?
Following the Walk at 9:00 am, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a number of fun-family events hosted by WYCC until 12:00 pm with additional activities hosted by the Forest Preserve throughout the afternoon.
Q. Will I need to be present for raffle prize giveaways?
Yes, pre-registered participants will have the opportunity to win raffle prizes announced throughout the day. Announced prizes must be picked up by 12:00 noon from the registration desk.
Q. Is there a list of scheduled events for the Walk for Health?
Registered participants will receive an email highlighting the schedule of activities. A complete schedule will also be included with registration packet pick up materials. For notice about added activities, please be sure to provide a valid email with your registration. If others in your party should receive updates as well, please include their emails as well.
Q. What PBS walk around characters will be present?
Daniel Tiger from Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood; and Princess Presto and Super Why from Super Why. The most current schedule of appearances will be posted at the WYCC Kids Zone.
Q. Is there a fee to participate in the Walk for Health and events?
There is no fee to participate in the Walk, however, registration is required. We ask that registrants consider making a donation and participants will have an opportunity to purchase a WYCC membership with their registration at www.wycc.org or by calling (888) 993-9922.
Q. May I bring my pet?
No. Pets are not allowed at the event. Thank you for understanding.
Q. Will there be a place to store my stroller and bag?
As much as possible, we ask that you hold on to your personal items, however, gear check will be available at 7:45 am for those participating in the Walk. Gear check will also be available for on-site stroller parking.
Q. Can I buy an extra event T-shirt?
T-shirts will only be provided for event registrants while supplies last.
Q. Will the event continue in inclement weather?
Yes, this Walk for Health event will continue rain or shine, however, safety precautions will be taken for reports of severe weather conditions and scheduled activity times may be delayed.
Q. The children’s activities are designed for what age group?
Children’s activities are designed for ages 3-12. The 3K Walk, suitable for all ages, will take place along a concrete trail.
Q. How will WYCC utilize any proceeds?
Funds raised from the Walk will be used to support the event, quality programming and community outreach initiatives related to health, wellness, and education.
Q. Are there restrooms on-site?
Yes, there are several restrooms surrounding the grounds of our event that are handicapped accessible. Directional signs will be posted.
Q. Where is available parking and is there a charge?
There is no charge for parking at the Dan Ryan Woods. Ample parking is available surrounding the park at Western Avenue between 83rd Street and 87th Street. While the parking lot entrance along Western will remain open, the entrance along 83rd Street will be temporarily closed at the start of the Walk, approximately 8:40 am. At this time, drivers will be directed to use the Dan Ryan Woods parking lots just North of 83rd Street.
Q. How can I receive general directions to the location?
The WALK FOR HEALTH will be in Dan Ryan Woods Central in Groves 1, 2, 3, 4. Click the link below for directions on public transportation or by driving http://fpdcc.com/dan-ryan-woods/
Q. Can we bring our own food and drinks/alcohol?
Alcohol is strictly prohibited. You are welcomed to bring food. A select offering of food trucks have been invited – a list of confirmed food vendors will be available on the day of the event.
