New 13-Part Series to premiere in Spring 2015

July, 2014 - WYCC PBS Chicago is pleased announce new music series in partnership with Rogers Park concert venue, Mayne Stage. This high energy music series is shot live on tape at the Mayne Stage on Chicago’s Northside.  Viewers of the series will be treated to an energetic line-up of some of today’s most dynamic local and national bands. Texas Alternative Rock, electrified bluegrass, retro-styled R&B and garage rock are just a few examples of what concert lovers will enjoy from the exhilarating, eclectic line-up that is a staple of the Mayne Stage performance schedule.

MUSIC ON THE MAYNE STAGE kicks-off this month with a heavy schedule of performances that will be taped before a live audience throughout the end of 2014 with a broadcast premiere date of Spring 2015 on WYCC PBS Chicago.  The hot lineup of artists scheduled to date include: Tommy Keene; Seryn; Nick Shaheen; with upcoming concerts scheduled with Nick Gaitan and the Umbrella Man (July 16); Amy Hart (July 16); Miss Tess and the Talk Backs (July 17); Ed Motta (August 5); Bloodshot 20th Anniversary Soul Show featuring Barrence Whitfield and the Savages (October 3) with more performances to be announced.  Each artist performance will be captured and produced into a one-hour, high definition broadcast concert.

“This partnership with Mayne Stage is another great opportunity for WYCC PBS Chicago to showcase the growth of exceptional talent that keeps our great city at the top of the list when it comes to spotlighting a wide genre of new music,” says Paul Buckner, station manager for WYCC. “We are excited to work with Mayne Stage to spotlight the work of artists that are expanding their reach on a national level,” he adds.

With a nod to the historic past of its grand facility, Mayne Stage provides the perfect setting for a broad spectrum of live performers. The chic, throwback look of Mayne Stage creates the perfect setting for the diverse, independent sound of the series’ musical acts.  The intimate house is showcased in a combined setting with Act One Pub, which allows for the artist and audience members to interact on a level not found at any other entertainment venue in Chicago.

MUSIC ON THE MAYNE STAGE further highlights WYCC PBS Chicago as a leading local broadcaster capturing a broad scope of Chicago’s rich music landscape with performances  for television audiences. This new series is being produced on the heels of WYCC’s 12-part blues series, Buddy Guy’s Legends Presents the Chicago Blues, scheduled to premiere this October 2014. A two-hour special, WYCC Presents a Special Evening with Buddy Guy, aired to wide acclaim in April 2014. In recent years, WYCC has produced Musicology, a 12-part series featuring an eclectic lineup of local musicians from the Old Town School of Folk Music and has worked with the Chicago Sinfonietta to produce the Emmy Award-winning special, Sounds of Diversity and eMotion, an unprecedented fusion of classical music and hip hop dance performance.
