The 56th Annual Chicago/Midwest Emmy® Awards Ceremony to
Broadcast Live for the First Time in 25 Years
WYCC PBS Chicago to air two-hour, live broadcast on Saturday, November 1, 2014, 8-10 pm (CT)
Chicago – July 30, 2014 – The Chicago/Midwest Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) is pleased to announce that the 56th Annual Emmy® Awards ceremony will return to television as a live broadcast for the first time in 25 years airing Saturday, November 1, 2014 on WYCC PBS Chicago.
The red carpet event recognizing multiple Emmy® winners submitted in over 80 broadcast and craft categories will take place at the upscale Radisson Blu Aqua Hotel located just beyond Chicago’s Magnificent Mile at 221 North Columbus Drive, Chicago.
"The Emmy® Awards ceremony is one of the most exciting evenings of the year for industry professionals, and broadcasting live in conjunction with WYCC PBS Chicago is sure to take the event to another level," says NATAS President Marcus Riley. "We have a record number of entries this year and we're in the midst of planning a memorable ceremony worthy of all the nominees on their big night."
WYCC PBS Chicago will oversee the broadcast production of the ceremony that will commence with a cocktail reception before a three-course dinner in the Radisson’s 12,041 square foot Atlantic Ballroom which provides incredible views of the Chicago skyline through 20-foot, floor-to-ceiling windows.
“We are excited to work with the NATAS Chicago/Midwest Chapter to bring this important awards ceremony to a larger viewing audience,” says Paul Buckner, General Manager for WYCC PBS Chicago. “Beyond the two-hour live broadcast, there will be a streamed addition to the program and we are also looking to showcase the production on regional PBS stations within the Chicago/Midwest broadcast markets. Confirming an expanded network broadcast of this year’s Emmy® awards ceremony in Wisconsin and Indiana will allow millions of viewers throughout the Midwest to experience this important industry celebration,” Buckner adds.
Chicago/Midwest members come from all areas of the industry and include the following markets: Chicago, Illinois; Peoria-Bloomington, Illinois; Rockford, Illinois; South Bend-Elkhart, Indiana; Green Bay-Appleton, Wisconsin; Madison, Wisconsin; Milwaukee, Wisconsin; and Wausau-Rhinelander, Wisconsin.
Emmy® Broadcast to Continue with Expanded Online Streaming
A continuation of the Emmy® ceremony beyond the live broadcast will be available for viewing via online streaming. A number of categories, including the announcement of the newest class of Silver Circle Award inductees and $24,000 in scholarship money to deserving students will be presented within this segment of the broadcast. The Silver Circle Awards ceremony, honoring television professionals with more than 25 years of experience in the industry, will be held in 2015.
The 56th Annual Emmy®Nominations Announced Tuesday, September 23, 2014
American Junkie, located at 15 W. Illinois, will host this year’s Emmy® nominations party on Tuesday, September 23 from 6 pm – 8 pm. The evening will include a light hors d'oeuvres reception for local television professionals in attendance to learn about this year’s Chicago/Midwest Emmy® Award nominations.
The Chicago Chapter was founded in 1958 after an expansion call by then National President, Ed Sullivan. The Chapter is one of the largest and most senior local chapters in the country, with a proud history of innovation and excellence in the field of broadcast television and beyond.
The last Chicago/Midwest Emmy® Awards ceremony to broadcast live was held in 1989 and hosted by talk show host and comedian Byron Allen.
