WISE TV, WYCC is a PBS station committed to and fully invested in providing Chicago's viewing audience with intelligent, visually superior programming. That is why the station looks forward to introducing Sony HD television on WYCC. General Manager Maria Moore says, "Our new partnership will be at the center of highly visible change, economic growth and urban development." Chancellor Wayne D. Watson, PhD of the City Colleges of Chicago adds, "The new television station will be a key part of the city's strategic effort to reshape Englewood, an inner city community that once thrived, was poverty stricken in recent years, but is now being revitalized."
At the new WYCC, area residents will have the opportunity to learn in an educational facility that is second to none, via cutting-edge technology. "We look forward to working with Sony, Pesa and Diversified Systems in bringing this exciting new opportunity to our PBS station and our community." Says WYCC Station Manager Arthur Wood.
The WYCC project will take advantage of the PBS/Sony High Definition Production Pilot, a cooperative program by Sony and PBS to encourage more HD television production by public television stations. There are over 345 PBS stations but at this juncture, very few are producing High Definition programming. In addition to Sony, WYCC will be partnering with Pesa Switching Systems and Diversified Systems to bring the new facility into a High Definition, fully integrated operation. WYCC will build two studios, five non-linear editing suites and two graphics suites. "We're thrilled at this great opportunity to build the first completely equipped High Definition TV station in the Chicago market. In selecting Sony, Pesa and Diversified Systems, we think we've chosen the best equipment and design services available in cutting-edge HD technology", says WYCC Director of Engineering Larry Eskridge.
The Kennedy-King College main student area, Culinary School, Theater, Gymnasium and five Smart Classrooms will all be connected directly by fiber to the WYCC studio master control making the entire campus an integral part of WYCC's production facilities. The Smart Classrooms will be fully outfitted with video conference capabilities, smart boards and video projection systems. The theater will be equipped with a Sony SXRD 4K digital cinema projector that produces 4 times the resolution of current HD displays.
The building construction for the new WYCC station and Kennedy-King College complex is well underway, with a projected on-air target date of June 15th 2007.
